About Laurie

Laurie has been trained as a family therapist, a trauma informed therapist, play therapist, and in the use of EMDR with a mindfulness based approach.  She loves to help individuals and families capitalize on their strengths and values to achieve what they are hoping for through strength based, research-based, and attachment based interventions.   She has additional experience working with children in the foster care system, leading parenting workshops, and as a therapist for an IOP group therapy program for adolescents and for adults.

Her own journey and self- work has opened her heart to helping individuals and families heal from trauma and navigate through the transitions and challenges that can drain, consume, and disconnect us.  She also struggled a lot in her own teen years and truly enjoys working with teens through all of the challenges that can break down their self-worth.  She believes in the power that each and every individual has to overcome the fears that create barriers to a more fulfilling life of freedom.   Some areas she specializes in are trauma, foster and adoption, parenting, ADHD, OCD, anxiety and depression.

Laurie received a Bachelor of Science in Child & Family Studies from Park University in 2002. She completed her graduate degree and received her Master’s of Science in Family Therapy at Friend’s University in 2012.  She is a Clinically Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Play Therapist in Kansas.

**A therapist intern from Mid America Nazarene University also provides therapy services at a reduced fee who is supervised by Laurie.  She currently sees children as young as 3 through adolescents.  Please email Laurie if interested or have questions around this option as well.
